To truly capture the stained glass effect, think in terms of rich, vibrant jewel tones. Emerald greens, sapphire blues, ruby reds, and amethyst purples will make your butterfly glow.
Use gradients to make each section look like it's lit from behind. Start with a darker shade of your chosen color along the edges and blend it into a lighter, brighter shade towards the center.
The bold black lines are crucial to the stained glass look. Keep them crisp and dark. You can even go over them with a fine-tip black marker at the end to make them pop.
After you've finished coloring, use a white gel pen or white paint marker to add small, sharp highlights to a few sections. This mimics the reflection of light on glass and adds a final touch of realism.
